WHAT IS GROUNDED YOGA THERAPY?

Let’s break the traditional model of sitting and talking, and learn about how yoga and therapy can work together. Because honestly, not everyone benefits from the same, couch-centric approach. Maybe you get fidgety in normal sessions, feel out of control of your body, or don’t want to share your story out loud again. If that’s you, Grounded Yoga Therapy can help provide the framework you’re seeking to reconnect, dive in, and be supported in your healing process.

In our 1.5-hour sessions, you’ll use custom-tailored yoga poses combined with a style of therapy that helps you change negative thoughts and behaviors. Yoga can help you understand the connection between your emotions, thoughts, and behavior, which in turn, can help you heal. Together we’ll use physical movement to address internal issues; We’ll identify triggers, unresolved conflicts, and negative thought patterns, and work on resolving them. You will also learn stress reduction techniques, build awareness of your needs, and gain physical flexibility and strength. This practice will help you find balance, feel empowered, and regain ownership of your body.

WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE?

Each 1.5 hour appointment includes 45 minutes of yoga movement and 45 minutes of processing thoughts and actions. There are no hands-on assists in this style of trauma-sensitive yoga.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT POSES ARE GOOD FOR ME? WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE FIRST APPOINTMENT?

During the first session, we’ll assess your specific needs through conversation and movement. We will identify your goals for our time together, then we’ll practice grounding poses and breathing exercises. Based on our first meeting, I’ll devise a program that takes into account your experience with yoga.

WHAT ARE RACHEL’S QUALIFICATIONS?

I am trained in Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) from the Brookline-based Trauma Center. This style of yoga has been shown to benefit individuals who need to reconnect with their bodies, feel confident, and regain trust in their thoughts and decisions. I am also a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT).

WHEN CAN I COME?

Grounded Yoga Therapy is available weekly on Monday and Wednesday. Appointments are available weekly or biweekly only.

WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE?

Unfortunately, Grounded Yoga Therapy is not covered by insurance. It costs $200 for the initial assessment and $150 for each appointment after that.

Pleasant aromas paired with mindfulness practice have been found to link the experience of relaxation with the conditioned stimulus (scent). Further exposure to the chosen aroma has the capacity to trigger the same response as breathing, yoga, or meditation.

How do you cope with the stress?
It took a while but after a month of slow work, I It took a while but after a month of slow work, I finished the purse!! It will head to our first Halloween party tomorrow. 🎃

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) refers to an interactive psychotherapy technique which aims to reduce symptoms of trauma by changing how memories are stored in your brain. 

Rachel is proud to be trained in this technique and excited to attend training opportunities like this to help further enhance the tools available in her work with clients!

Basically, it’s how we store stress.  So how does it impact you? Poly means many and vagal refers to the vagus nerve. It is a key nerve to restore heath in our nervous system. 

The vagus nerve goes through your body, so the theory addresses how the body processes stress.

The Polyvagal Theory focus on these three neural circuits for regulation of the nervous system.
* Ventral Vagal: Social Engagement. This is when you are in a state of safety and connection.
* Sympathetic: Fight or Flight. This is when your body readies for action.
* Dorsal Vagal: Freeze. The body just shuts down in response to a perceived threat.

The fundamentals of Polyvagal, is that humans want the feeling of safety. Often the cues we are getting operate under our awareness of what triggers us into stress. Being able to identify the state of your own nervous system helps you to recognize where you are on the map and get back to connection and safety.
